Welcome to the
Waterloo State Park

Waterloo Recreation Area is west of Chelsea, Michigan, and north of I-94. This is the third largest state park in Michigan, and the largest state park in the Lower Peninsula. It has over 20,000 acres of land and 11 lakes. Camping is available, including 13 rustic cabins. Forty-seven miles of hiking trails and numerous equestrian trails are available, along with many other recreational opportunities.

The park features the Gerald E. Eddy Geology Center, named for Gerald E. Eddy (1907-77), former chief of the Geological Survey Division and Director of the Department of Conservation. The center is a tribute to his lifelong dedication to conservation and education, and honors his career in geology. Numerous year-round exhibits, hands-on exhibits, displays, programs and nature trails tell visitors about the science of geology. The Waterloo Natural History Association and the Eddy Geology Center staff sponsor many public programs and explain the many uses of rocks and minerals, both in the past and in the present. The center hosts special events throughout the year, including the annual Geology Arts Fair held in October.
