Welcome to the Bay City Recreation Area
Bay City Recreation Area is north of Bay City, Michigan, on the shores of the Saginaw Bay. The park area has over 2,000 acres of land featuring wooded wetlands, marsh ponds, gentle dune ridges and a mile of shoreline. Recreational opportunities include camping, swimming, hiking fishing and bicycling. Observation towers and five miles of trails are available. The park features the Saginaw Bay Visitor Center, the oldest visitor center within Michigan’s State Parks. In 1940, it was named for George Birney Jennison, a wildlife conservationist. The Jennison Nature Center was expanded, renovated and reopened in 1996 as the Saginaw Bay Visitor Center. The park offers a filed observation room, auditorium, interpretive programs and award winning K-12 school programs including the DEW Traveling Outreach Program. The Saginaw Bay Visitor Center is located in the park. A hands-on museum and multi-media presentation helps visitors understand the importance of the Saginaw Bay area in Michigan’s rich history of fishing, lumbering, shipping and agriculture. Exhibits also help visitors appreciate the uniqueness of Michigan’s wetland resources and the necessary role they play in nature and our daily lives.
