<< Preamble >>

Prescribed burning is accepted as an effective and inexpensive tool for use in wildlife and forestry practices.  Fire may be used to stimulate sprouting of trees and shrubs for deer browse and other game cover.  It is also used to reduce serious fire hazards, to prepare seed beds for planting, and as a silvicultural method, to reproduce jack pine.

The Department may use prescribed burning under carefully planned and controlled conditions as a tool for use in wildlife and forestry management practices.
