2404 - PARKS - STATE LAKES-STATE PARKS PROJECTS
Issued January 1, 1977

<< Subject >>

PARKS - STATE LAKES-STATE PARKS PROJECTS

<< Preparing Division >>

Fisheries and Parks

<< Preamble >>

The existence of inland lakes greatly enhances the attractiveness of an area, particularly State parks, for recreational activities.  Central Michigan suffers from a lack of recreational opportunities because of a scarcity of inland lakes, and it would be in the public interest to alleviate this situation through the creation of artificial lakes.

<< General Policy >>

The Department shall incorporate the State Lakes Program with State park and recreation area projects whenever feasible and practical, and when substantial recreational benefits will likely result in the lakeless regions of the State.  The Director shall appoint a State Lakes Committee which shall make decisions on development priorities and assignment of funds.
